Landscape, creek

Creekside Whisper(Oil 12 x 12 )

  Available for purchase

Photographing of this painting really fails me as the camera doesn't capture the actual color and, detailed delicate hue. I had to adjust the color and brightness to arrive at the original mood and atmosphere. Still,  it is not exact. Underpainting color used was transparent red medium. The color is peeking thru in some part of the painting.(If you look closely) During the painting process, I wanted to make focal point rather enforced. Which is the distant centered light and reflection on the water. Some part had to be wiped out to make hard edge softer with a little struggle.

A tree planted by the rivers of water

By the rivers of water(Oil; 12 x 12 inches)

                                            Available for purchase

Another scene from chambers creek, Kobayasi park,WA.
For this painting, for a lot of part, palette knife was used. After finishing this, I looked into this painting for a while, to give its title, and I came up with the thought of this verse from the Psalm 1, verse 3 "He shall be like a tree planted by the   rivers of water, Whose leaf also shall not wither; a the tree planted by the rivers of water.

So I like to  quote a part of the phrase to name this image.

Peaceful time

Peaceful time(12 x 12: oil on canvas panel)
                                                Available for purchase

I love this scene, as this place makes me  dream of quiet and peaceful and idle            moment in the spring time.  Point of this painting is to make the tree branches            and leaves more sparkle than in actual world. To do that I had to make foreground        somewhat dark. Hard part was the ripple and the reflected shadow on the water.

White water park, 3rd painting in oil

Reflection of past (oil painting, 8 x 10 inches)
                                                      sold

First painting on white water park, GA, was done with pastel. Second one is with water color pouring method. Now, third time goes with oil. White water park has been standing steady model for my painting up to this time for several years. Perhaps, I love that place, which gives some inspiration anyway. Eventually, pastel painting and water color paintings left me as they found home.

Pleinair artist group in WA-paint out

Blue poppy

PAWA Blue Poppy Day - Art in Bloom, May 16th ,2015

Paint-out event was held at Rhododendron Species Foundation & Botanical Garden,Federal way, WA.

Since I joined PAWA(Plein Air Washington Artists) last month, I was able to attend this event which was first for me and made plein air painting practice on that day. I carried pastels rather than oil paint.  I met  a few Plein air artists and good to have a talk with other artists  and the weather was cloudy not so bright. I forgot to take a shot on my plein air set up. It was fun painting outside from life, even though I only find all green surroundings, which I like to rather avoid on my painting lately, nevertheless I could not help painting in green.  As I can not get away from it in the "garden".

These are my outcome on the spot, plein air studies with pastel, done between 11AM and 3 PM until I come home. It was worthy of one Saturday spent.

Thinking of Autumn color

Autumn Reverie(Oil on canvas panel;12 x 12 in)

North west area, WA, when it is autumn, the color of nature is literally covered with pure yellow, it is beyond the expression. Now we are in  almost summer and all green. This picture was taken before the season comes to the green. For doing this painting, I experimented with palette knife rather than brush. Using palette knife technique,  I learned from the other artist whom I admire for landscape painting. For me, it is somewhat coarse texture outstanding.  Palette knife is useful for express tree trunks and leaves natural look any way.

Private garden series

Sunlit Stairs(oil on gessoboard;6 x 6 in.)

Blue Door( oil on gessoboard; 6 x6 in.)
I did some garden paintings in small lately. Those were from California scenes  of which I took some pictures before I moved to WA. The weather is so bright and dramatic shadow elements seem so interesting to paint. Even though it is daunting to properly portray its lush flowers and leaves in front of the house.
I don't think I would ever paint private garden floral series again.

Winter Reverie

Winter, still water (oil on canvas panel: 12 x 12 in)

This is one of my favorite winter painting, having fun. This was referred to the scene in Duluth,GA.  I did this painting on small size board last year. I want to depict the solitude and quietness of  the color and the mood. The water stream was really still and quiet and no one could ever find this spot in the winter. It is somehow secluded area, for me I wish I could be there. Viewing this painting, could some one as well wish to be there?
Then this painting is successful, but otherwise, it is not.

Sunlit door

Sunlit Door (Oil on gessoboard: 6 x 6 inches)
                                                 click to bid

It has been quite a while since my last blogging. There was some conflict between being an artist and facing the reality on my own. Somewhat blocking period, or you call it procrastination, that is I know that my mind I should paint but I put off painting somehow for days. On the other hand, deeply in my heart, I feel my destination is painting after all no matter what comes around in my life.  And one day, I come up with the thought, I should not waste time for the sake of painting,  For me, painting is joy and agony at the same time, but there is always freedom  choice on the blank canvas or surface and most of all, it gives timeless, limitless possibility that will lead you to the door you should open some day. The door, i never know what I will see or meet when I open it.  For the bright day, opening ceremony, hard work will be only answer for now.
What else I can say. Tell me if you have any better idea.

Rose still life series

January rose(11 1/2 x 8 1/4 inches on oil paper)
sold

I titled this painting January Rose, since I  could pick up variety of roses in winter weather so easily, it is pleasant surprise and luck, meaning I am fortunate to paint the rose in January as well. Actually, roses and flowers can be found all seasons. I admit that I am living in the world so convenient.

                                             To purchase click

I got the urge to paint the rose from life,as the weather here is mostly rainy every day, or every other day and I need to keep myself indoor for a while during these chilly and rainy season, still life is appropriate subject. so I went out to find some rose bouquet at the market and picked up some variety of color, with different combination.
So here is the finished painting on paper. It could be preliminary to larger work on linen later on.

Recently sold paintings

During the early part of December,
I was happy as these paintings have found home finally. 7 paintings(3 pastels, 3 oil paintings, 1 watercolor painting) all went to one buyer residing in Eastern part.

This would make a wonderful and pleasant finale for 2014. And I will be moving forward to New year to come with encouraging resolution to grow more as an artist.

I like to thank you all who showed interest in my work and  patronized along with many warm and nice comments.

Wapato Park Morning

While walking and searching around the park for painting reference in the morning,
I entered the shaded trail of the area and I looked back and saw this moment of light,
It was so impressive to me and I wanted to capture its morning light throw in.

Lake morning

Lake morning (Oil on arches oil Paper  8.5 x 11.5)

Since moving to WA, I did not paint much. So I went out to nearest park around my place and I was so pleased to see all the colorful view which is rarely seen in southern California.
So calm and wet mood but once in a while little bit of sunlight. Quiet and no crowd, it is so poetic surroundings.

Moving to Washington State

Last week, I moved to WA from Southern California.
Finally, I am in the city of lake. I did not find time blogging for a while.I have my own sad reason AS many things happened, meantime my sister moved to heaven while she was still young at 40, suffering from breast cancer, November 4, 2014

No painting, no work, alas.

I still could not find emotional strength to put myself to pick up my brush to paint.
However, I know I have to move on.
Taking a walk, I felt early winter mood with chilly yesterday rainy around my place.
It gives me refreshing moment. I realized that we all have responsibility to honor every moment and every second.

I came home with tons of photos though.

So,from now on I will be painting here in the state of Evergreen.

Long distance trip by driving

Last week, I was on the road toward Seattle, WA. This view was take in somewhere in Oregon. Interstate freeway No. 5 get you all the way up to Washington State. Due to this long distance trip, I did not find much time to paint, but I could break through out of my small place, inhale fresh air on a cool and bright day. Well, I feel missing though without spending my time on my artwork.  I took some reference photos  for inspiring  for my future work.  Everybody needs a holiday. Everybody needs traveling. At some point, traveling by car is tiresome, but it is refreshing and good experience.
I hope I will be back with some scene from Washington State soon or later.

Prelude to October

                                       Prelude to October(Oil, 8 x 8)

                                       Sold

Southern California is burning under the extreme heat of the sun with no moisture. Nothing but hot air is in the air.108 degree.yikes.This weather is not good for the rose. The rose I bought from the market blooms so fast  overnight and  next day, its fresh scent gone.

I want to name this painting "prelude to October" which is my birth month and I miss fresh air and cool weather. October is coming closer anyway.
